Weddings

Mhondoro is the perfect bushveld venue for a small intimate wedding offering 5 star service and accommodation for up to 10 guests. The wedding services are usually held either at Mhondoro's private waterhole under beautiful African trees or on a rocky outcrop with never-ending views of Welgevonden Game Reserve and its surrounds. Tables and chairs are set up in the bush for the wedding party who are often visited by curious 4 legged guests eager to be part of the celebration.

The guests have the choice of celebrating the union with wedding cake and Champaign in the bush directly after the ceremony or returning to the main lodge for their culinary delights. Our team of dedicated and experienced chefs will wow the couple and their family and friends with a feast for all the senses blending traditional and ethnic fare.

The wedding party are free to enjoy the rest of the celebration as they please - either dancing up a storm African style around a huge bon-fire in our outdoor boma, soaking away the hours in the Jacuzzi, relaxing in the steam room or simply enjoying the atmosphere of good company and great wine in the Main Lodge.

Larger groups of up to 20 guests can be accommodated upon special request.

Mhondoro provides unrivalled intimacy and, with a maximum of 10 guests including the bridal couple, the lodge is exclusively yours, and its management team are well versed at creating dreams.

Your decision may be to retain the traditional wedding finery, white and all, on the deck of the lodge, followed by the customary reception. Or you may wish to break from tradition and embrace the African spirit, exchanging vows beneath a majestical marula tree serenaded by African hymns. Often mother nature provides more than a breathtaking setting and occasionally the guest list is added to, with the occasional curious giraffe or two stopping by to witness the occasion.

Either way, your hosts are eager to get you back to the lodge after your photographs, of course, to delight you with the finest culinary delights in the dining room or, for a more authentic experience, around a crackling fire in the boma. The rest of the evening cannot be scripted and the decision is yours, although we would recommend a little traditional dance around the fire. And for those wishing to extend the African tradition, the bride will present, on bended knee, a calabash of the grooms favourite brew. We would be delighted to assist you in creating what is possibly one of your life's most exciting moments, and leave the stress of ensuring that it remains so to your hosts.

Game Drives

Driving through the reserve in the 4 wheel drive game viewing vehicle, after your arrival at the main gate, you will be treated to your first sighting of the reserve's permanent residents: Impala, Warthog, Giraffe, Rhino, Kudu, Eland, Elephant and many others.

Your hosts are knowledgeable and friendly and will keep you entertained throughout your early morning and afternoon game viewing drives. Their love of the bush is infectious and you'll soon find yourself eagerly waiting for the next animal anecdote or tidbit of information.

Guests are treated to a refreshing drink upon their arrival at main gate and are then transferred directly to the lodge. (Approximately 50 minutes drive). Sundowners and snacks are served on the evening game drives. The rangers usually choose magnificent spots such as atop a mountain ridge where you can stand and stare at the majestic beauty around you and enjoy a fine South African chardonnay. Hot beverages and snacks will keep you warm on the early morning drives

Bush Walks

Bush walks and hiking excursions are offered with fully qualified rangers. These vary with the weather and the desires of the guests. Along with some of the larger animals you may well see some of the "Little Five"- Elephant Shrew, Leopard Tortoise, Rhino Beetle, Buffalo Weaver and Ant Lion.

Your rangers are extremely knowledgeable about the bush and you will soon find yourself absorbed in the wonders of this magical eco- system. If you are interested in Bushman Paintings we can organise a day trip that will transport you back 2000 years when Welgevonden was the home of the San people.

Mhondoro offers its visitors the opportunity to view some of the only surviving rock art from the indigineous San people who lived in the Waterberg region.
